Students examine volunteering activities and the role volunteers play in their community. They also explore how an individual’s personal qualities and interests can inspire their volunteering activities. The goal of the theme is to encourage the willingness to be socially responsible and contribute to the community. Students read about Canadian volunteering Web sites as well as remarkable celebrity and Canadian teenaged volunteers. Final Task: Students work individually or in small groups to plan and complete a volunteering project. They keep a log book of their activities and write an article about their volunteering experience. Students then publish a class electronic newsletter about their volunteering activities. Workbook Blackline Masters support the core activities, and provide opportunities for students to practise language. Also included are additional complementary activities and a comprehensive French-English Lexique for student reference. Also includes the Mini-guide section reproduced in the back of the workbook.
