This unit serves as a means for students to explore various aspects of the popular culture of the 1960s, 1970s, and 1980s. Students will be encouraged to communicate with parents, guardians, grandparents, and other adults to learn about life in past decades. Students will see how some trends have been repeated over the years and how they have become popular once again. Historic events, fashion, cars, popular social activities, Francophone music, and dances are all discussed through reading and listening activities. Final Task: Students work in small groups to create a presentation of the popular culture of a chosen decade to an audience. Students will choose four to five categories from the following: news events, fashion and style, cars, music, and dance. Presentations may involve dancing, PowerPoint for video slides, background music or composed music, student artwork, dramatic voices, or acting. The TRB is organized into 8 to 10 “lessons”. Each lesson is brokendown into three phases: Pre-Activity, Activity, Post-Activity. The TRB contains methodology, language, content and outcomes summary charts, and comprehensive lesson plans written by practicing teachers. Also includes assessment and evaluation with reproducible rubrics, checklists and worksheets, as well as additional activities (in reproducible master format). In every thematic unit, teaching notes are provided for combined grades, differentiated instruction for varying ability levels and forvarying the final task.
