Hebden Bursary Award

We would like to thank each and every one of our participants in this year’s Hebden Bursary. This year, we received over 80 applications. It has been an honour reading all of the applications and truly a difficult task to narrow it down to just one winner. For the 2024 Hebden Bursary Award, we have selected Grace Cruz as the winner! Grace is a student at New Westminster Secondary, in New West B.C..

Grace intends on continuing the study of Chemistry at Simon Fraser University in Burnaby, B.C. in September 2024. Grace is enrolled for a Bachelor’s of Science in Molecular Biology and Biochemistry. Here she plans to complete the necessary courses and gain 60 transferrable credits to be admitted into the entry to practice PharmD program at UBC. Upon completing the four-year PharmD Program, Grace will be equipped with the proper degree in her pursuit of becoming a licensed pharmacist.

Grace has obtained high academic standing while contributing to her community. Grace is passionate about band and culinary arts. She is a dedicated band student and creates meaningful connections with others through her music. Grace has volunteered her time with band and has performed at Jazz festivals, bringing people together.

In addition to band, Grace has also volunteered at the school cafeteria at lunch hour. Here, she assists in providing and serving students and staff with food at lunch hour. Some of her tasks in the cafeteria include: prepping, cooking, cleaning, plating and doing the dishes.

Grace strongly demonstrates a desire to help and care for those around her. I have no doubt that she will make an excellent pharmacist one day! On behalf of Western Campus, we wish her the best in all of her future endeavors!

Western Campus appreciates all applicants of the Hebden Bursary. We would like to graciously thank every one of the students and teachers who took the time to apply. While we read many applicants of well-deserving individuals, we have narrowed it down to one.

The Jim Hebden Bursary is a $1000 award given annually by Western Campus Resources, the exclusive distributor of Jim Hebden’s best-selling Chemistry Workbooks.
